Description:
'Hard Times', is a tear jerker inspired by BRB's personal battle with cancer spanning across eight years of his life during a time when he was raising two young children. The video clip features real life footage from some of his time in the hospital where he continued to write music when well enough to do so. The majority of the track was written in a hospital waiting room before a major exploratory surgery to determine his original diagnosis.

The track also features on the Australian Hip Hop Supports Canteen' Album compilation - a release close to BRB's heart after his own lengthy battle with cancer and the loss of his friend Hunter who brought the album together.
In March of 2005 BRB was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. At the end of 2007 more than just pain and mobility issues arose as he rapidly went downhill, losing most of the movement in his legs. BRB's conditioned deteriorated to the point where haematologists did not think his body could handle the required amount of chemotherapy.
Towards the end of 2009 every breath became a struggle and BRB was put on a respirator in his home. Palliative care nurses were visiting his home regularly as he could no longer leave the house. A crucial decision had to be made; face death or go with the extreme chemotherapy.
Bloated and swollen from lymphedema, some doctors gave him little time while others were optimistic. Following the decision to undergo treatment, a pathological fracture was found in his hip. This meant that BRB was to undergo strict bed rest until the hip healed. Because BRB was also undergoing chemo, this resulted in a six month hospital stay.
While BRB was receiving treatment and waiting for his hip to heal, he contracted a golden staff infection which ate away the left side of his hip and femur. Due to the extensive damage, it was feared BRB may never walk again.
After discovering the golden staff infection, BRB was rushed into theatre and there was great concern that, due to his frail condition, he would not live through the surgery. BUT he made it out alive and was able to survive the remaining two months of treatment before finally being able to return home, seemingly in remission.
BRB was extremely frail and bound to a wheel chair but was now home with his family, including a one year old son. Due to his strict bed rest and deterioration to his muscles, his body was contorted to a 'C' shape with his left leg permanently extended to a position horizontal to the ground.
Due to the generosity of the local community, he has was given a specialised electric powered wheelchair which provided him with some mobility and cushioning for his body which was skin and bones at the time. Following six months of intensive rehabilitation, hydrotherapy and the commitment of some amazing physiotherapists, BRB was able to stand and eventually take some steps aided first by a walker, and then crutches. Things were looking up and he and his family began rebuilding their lives.
In 2011, as part of a routine check up, it was discovered that the hodgkins lymphoma had returned. As this was a relapse, a more aggressive form of treatment was required. Following four months of chemotherapy, BRB underwent a stem cell transplant. It took several months to recover from this intensive procedure, and his energy levels remained low for an extended period of time while his body recovered from the trauma of the experience.
Just as he had regained his strength, his name came up on the waiting list for surgery. In 2012 BRB had a total hip replacement and bone grafting in his left femur. Another two months in hospital to allow the bone graft to take and BRB was home from the hospital just in time to celebrate Christmas - the best gift his wife and two children could have!
Since then BRB has continued to rehabilitate. His leg lengths still have a slight discrepancy and he walks with a cane. Aside from this, life is back on track and he continues to go from strength to strength.
He co-hosts on Australia's Definition Radio, hosts hip hop workshops, mentors youth and continues to release the many years of music made over the past decade in between hospital stays.
