Mona J.

À propos de Mona J.

An old, wood-splintered Hammond organ shoved in the back of a junky garage served as the humble beginnings for Tamona Williams, later to be known as Mona J. She would climb over boxes to tickle the dulled, out-of-tune keys, teaching herself how to play by ear. Coupled with her natural singing ability, those endeavors birthed early songs, such as "God is Love," but they lacked much musical and lyrical content.

After begging for and receiving a Yamaha keyboard for Christmas, she continued to perfect her craft. She also expanded her musical ability by learning how to play the saxophone and guitar. Still in that same junky garage, Mona J.'s elementary melodies evolved into complex rhythms and funky beats. Praying for God's guidance, she learned the art of worship and was then ready to share the good news with the world. Mona J. began singing and playing at various churches in the Hampton Roads, VA area. It was a tiring, and thankless stint, but she pressed on and started to sing her music at Christian nightclubs, open mic events, community centers, and restaurants. After her performances, she noticed that many people would request a personal copy of her music. This provoked Mona J. to record her material and sell her music on CDs. What started off as a small sampler later sold several hundred copies in the local market alone. Everyone wanted to have one.

What is so unique about Mona J. isn't just her dynamic voice or instrumental talents; it's the anointing. Born again since the age of four, Mona J. loves the Lord with her whole heart, and it shows through her lifestyle. An active member of New Life Worship Center, located in Norfolk, VA, Mona J. lives the life she sings about. Her music breathes messages of hope, love, happiness and freedom for all people. With down-to-earth messages about the challenges we face in this day, her music combines power-packed lyrics and smooth vocals to touch the hearts of saint and sinner. Her style: a soulful blend of inspirational neo-soul inspired by Jazz, Hip-Hop, R&B and Pop. Such were the influences on her hit songs "There's Something Wrong (Change the World)" and "Tonight." Both songs charted at number one for several weeks on www.soundclick.com.

As a certified music producer with Youth Entertainment Studios, 24 year-old Mona J. writes and produces her own music. But she is not just a studio musician, Mona J.'s preference is singing live with her dynamic five-piece-band. Her band has the ability to bring out the funk in her songs while maintaining a smooth vibe to accentuate Mona J.'s expressive lyrics.

Her love of music, people, and most importantly, God, drives Mona J.'s vision for changing the world
